Superficial cranial anatomy
Michelangelo painted his portrait of God on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Here is a copy of that fresco, used as the basis for a series of anatomical studies as a student art project. This fresco was painted with tempera paint on plasterboard, as were the samples shown below.
This is a fresco of the nervous system underlying Michelangelo's painting of God.
Specifically, the focus is on the twelve left-sided cranial nerves, shown in white.

That's a cherub in the background, known to the Italians as a "putto."
